Hodie sanctum Andream apostolum celebremus! Or: Today, let us glorify Saint Andrew the Apostle!
However we may express it—whether in Latin, Hebrew, or Romanian—let us remember with emotion the one who first preached the Gospel in Asia Minor.
From there, he came to the lands between the Danube and the Black Sea and brought Christianity to our Geto-Dacian ancestors.
He is the protector of the Romanian people, and it is to him that we should bow in reverence today, proclaiming:
“Let us praise Andrew, the First-Called, the preacher of the faith among the Geto-Dacians and servant of the Word, for he led our forefathers to the knowledge of Christ, holding the Cross in his hands and delivering their souls from the deception of the enemy, bringing them to God as a well-pleasing offering. Let all Romanians praise and honour him, that he may unceasingly pray to Christ our God to protect us from all evil and to save our souls.”
Happy Name Day to all those who were baptised with the name of Saint Andrew the Apostle!
