“Knowledge is the light of the mind!” said Saint Voivode Neagoe Basarab, Ruler of Wallachia and founder of the Curtea de Argeș Monastery, canonised and venerated by the Romanian Orthodox Church on 26 September. This statement appears in the renowned work The Teachings of Neagoe Basarab to His Son Theodosie, a genuine treatise on ethics and politics that offers a clear insight into the values the ruler regarded as essential for a leader.

We too, the members and guests of the Knights of Malta Club, honoured him as befitting his legacy: through an elitist and distinguished event, alongside individuals who know how to cherish the values of the Romanian people—those that have wisely shaped the cultural wealth of an identity-bearing space which today we may gratefully call ROMANIA.

This was by no means accidental, but rather part of a cultural project initiated by the Knights of Malta Club, born of the desire to restore value and render due honour, across generations, to all personalities who have contributed to the consolidation and affirmation of the Romanian nation. The quotation with which we began represents the motto of the Knights of Malta Club, ennobling today all those who stand close to us—not by the sword, but by the book.
